At the young age of 22, Christian Koenigsegg launched a car company and set about creating his version of the ultimate car.
Back then, to create the first working prototype, the carmaker sketched the technical layout of the car himself and, working alongside his small team, hand-modeled all components for the vehicle. The prototype was completed in 1996 – just two years after the project began – and the Koenigsegg CC featured a unique carbon fiber body with a detachable roof.
Koenigsegg took the CC prototype to the Cannes Film Festival a year later, and the reaction to the car was immediate and positive. From that first rollout, the international contacts were established and the car had made the next steps towards commercial production.
Now model car maker Area71 has built their own version Koenigsegg’s dream car – the CCX. The first batch of 1:32-scale Koenigsegg CCXs are on the market now, and the man behind them, Marco Rizzi, leads a team of Italian designers and technicians to create this, what they say is the first in a line of ground-breaking, limited edition scale model kits.
Koenigsegg CCX is 3D printed, and while a number of 3D printed tuning components and upgrade chassis kits are available, the Area71 Koenigsegg CCX is said by the makers to be the first completely 3D printed chassis and body kit available on the market.
Rather than using FDM and ABS, the parts were created of a special, nylon-based powder and then printed in-house at the Area71 on SLS-based printers. They say the advantages of nylon over ABS include a melting temperature of 135°C rather than 88°C, a 15% lower part density, higher impact resistance and improved flexibility and stiffness.
The builders say that using post processing to eliminate building lines and surface porosity means only minimal prep work is required prior to painting.
The Area71 say the car will be manufactured in limited runs of just 300 units – 150 units each with a SW/IL Slot.it-compatible chassis, and 150 units each with an AW NSR-compatible chassis – and that every body and chassis will be individually numbered.
The cost of the kits is €79 plus shipping per kit, and the company says they’ll be available via mail order this week.
And that’s not the end of the story. The Area71 say they also plan to release cars such as the AMG Vision, the Ferrari 288GTO and the Porsche 901 concept.

NSR is showing with its own stand at the International Toy Fair in Nuremberg and is displaying a much awaited novelty: the BMW Z4 GT3.
After a long developing, due to technical issues not depending from the factory makes its own debut the definitive production model of the Bavarian coupé, first product designed and engineered by Marco Rizzi for NSR, shown first time as a prototype, at last year’s WRE.
The first launch on the market expected for March / April, as NSR tradition, will be with the street versions produced in black, red and silver. Following these versions, in May / June, it will be the turn of the first competition livery, racing number 1 in BMW Motorsport presentation official colors. More pad printed racing liveries will follow, with a schedule that promises to be busy in second half of the year. Still a very little wait for those enthusiasts who want to increase their GT3 collection, a slot racing category that NSR has created.
A very important novelty featured on the BMW Z4 GT3 chassis is the arrangement for the Carrera digital system. A test that if will provide the expected results, it will be extended to all the others GT3 NSR products.
Within few days, in February, it will debut a new livery for the AUDI R8 GT3; it will be the one of the WRT team, winner of the 2014 SPA 24 H with racing number 1.
In March, on the anniversary of Salvatore Noviello sudden death, a memorial model will be presented. Once again it will be a Mosler, universally known as the wolrd’s fastest GT slot car, in a livery that will feature green and red colors, inspired to those used by Salvatore on its own models.
It is highly suggested to order it once pictures will be released. It will go away fast.
In April it will be the turn of another version of the Corvette C6R GT3, the one of the Selleslagh Racing Team with Exim China Bank livery, major player in 2011 FIA GT Championship. The number 11 Red with yellow stars and stripes.
Once again in May it will be the BMW Z4 GT3 to be again the star with the white kit version, well appreciated by the concerned slot racer always looking for that tenth of a gram less on the body.
A first semester of 2015 rich and full of news for NSR, that is giving a strong message to the market, definitely recovering form the sudden and unexpected death of Salvatore Noviello, the hearth and the soul of the company he has created.
But this is not all, a lot more is going on and from now until the end of the year there is a lot of room for surprises and news from NSR : STAY TUNED!
